First biomass for EDF in China

Lingbao biomass heat network not only allowed the municipality to phase out the small coal-fired boilers but also enabled local farmers to earn additional income by reusing agricultural waste as biomass fuel.

Under a 30-year concession contract with Lingbao municipality (Henan Province), EDF develops locally a heat network fed by a biomass cogeneration power plant. A joint venture has been created between EDF (65%) and the city’s investment corporation for this project.

  • 284 000 tonnes

    Less CO2 emissions per year

  • 245 GWh

    Green electricity generated per year

The biomass plant is commissioned at the end of 2019 and the heat network can cover up to two million m2, saving CO2 emission by 284,000 tons each year.

In the context of the fight against air pollution, this project offers an effective solution to satisfy the city’s needs to reduce its coal consumption without compromising the comfort of its 720,000 inhabitants during the heating season.

In addition, Lingbao’s orchards, one of the biggest in China, will be the main source for the biomass plant, which will create additional income for farmers in this region by reusing agricultural waste.
